ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT ASSISTANT INFORMATION
The Penn State Athletic Communications Office is seeking highly motivated students who are interested in gaining experience in athletic media relations, communications, or public relations. Students with strong written and verbal communication skills who are dependable, responsible, can easily work independently and as a member of team are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and desktop publishing (InDesign and Photoshop) programs preferred, but not required. Familiarity with AP style is a plus. Social media experience a plus.
Student Assistants in the Athletic Communications Office will work various events across all 31 Penn State varsity sports performing tasks that include taking statistics, assisting the media, and transcribing postgame press conferences. Student Assistants also assist with research projects, write press releases and features stories, and assist with website maintenance for GoPSUsports.com, the Official Home of Penn State Athletics. After successful completion of the first semester with the Athletic Communications Office, the Student Assistant Position can be taken for credit.
The Penn State Athletic Communications Office has a proven track record of success in placing our student assistants in internships and full-time positions in athletic media relations. Among the schools or organizations that currently employ a former Penn State Athletic Communications student assistant are: Penn State, the Baltimore Ravens, the Atlanta Falcons, Duke University, University of Minnesota, University of Virginia, the Phoenix Coyotes, American Junior Golf Association, AND 1 Basketball, Newsday and Entertainment Weekly.
