UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team returns to Rec Hall for the first time since 2009 on Friday, Sept. 3 when it hosts the Hampton Inn Classic. The Nittany Lions face Seton Hall on Friday, before taking on Colgate and VCU on Saturday, Sept. 4.

Nittany Lion Preview
The three-time defending national champion Penn State women's volleyball team opens its 2010 home slate this weekend in the Hampton Inn Classic at Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions face Seton Hall on Friday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. before taking on Colgate and VCU on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a successful weekend at the Carolina Classic with a 3-0 record. Penn State earned straight set wins against UNC, Villanova and Campbell. Senior Blair Brown led the Lions with 4.00 kills per set, while freshman Deja McClendon averaged 3.22 kps to rank second on the team. Sophomore Kristin Carpenter paced the offense with 8.11 assists per set, while D'Errico had a team-best 1.89 aces per set. On defense, D'Errico led the squad with 5.89 digs per set and senior Arielle Wilson had 1.78 blocks per set.

For the weekend, Penn State attacked at a .302 clip. The Nittany Lions averaged 12.89 kills per set, 11.78 assists per set, 2.22 aces per set, 15.67 digs per set and 4.11 blocks per set.

Penn State vs. Seton Hall
The Nittany Lions are 2-0 all-time against the Pirates in a series dating back to 2002. Penn State met Seton Hall at the Fairfield Tournament on Sept. 7, 2002 and won, 3-0 (30-18, 30-18, 30-14). The last meeting between the two programs came Sept. 16, 2005 in the Penn State Classic. PSU won the match, 3-0 (30-20, 30-17, 30-20).

Penn State vs. Colgate
Penn State is also 2-0 all-time against the Raiders. The two teams first met in 1979 with Penn State winning, 2-0 (15-7, 15-4). The Nittany Lions and Raiders did not meet again until Sept. 8, 2007 in the Penn State Classic. PSU won the match, 3-0 (30-10, 30-13, 30-14).

Penn State vs. VCU
The Nittany Lions are 3-1 against the Rams. VCU won the first match with the Nittany Lions on Oct. 29, 1977 in two sets, 15-12, 15-8. The two squads last met in 2007 with Penn State defeating VCU, 3-0 (30-15, 30-13, 30-14).

What's Next?
Penn State heads back on the road to the Nike Big Four Volleyball Classic hosted by the University of Florida on Sept. 10-11. The Nittany Lions take on Florida on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Penn State will face either Texas or Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
