UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Just in time for the Nittany Lions' upcoming bowl announcement, Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics and BIA Information Network have teamed up to provide Nittany Lion fans with news updates through the PSU Sports Desktop on GoPSUsports.com, the Official home of Penn State Athletics. Free of charge, Penn State Athletics' ActiveAccess-branded desktop application will launch immediately and is designed to keep alumni, students, faculty, and fans updated on sports news, scores, events, and critical gameday information 24/7 through a light-weight download that continuously resides on their PC without having to access the Internet or email.
"As we enter the height of the fall championship and winter sports seasons, and with a bowl game announcement just days away, the timing is right to introduce our fans to PSU Sports Desktop," said Gregory J. Myford, Associate Director for Marketing and Communications at Penn State. "It's an excellent supplement to GoPSUsports.com that allows the Nittany Lion faithful to get information about our 29 sports teams nearly instantly. This is all about giving people information when they want it, where they want it with very little effort required on their part."
GoPSUsports.com generates up to six million page view per month and attracts more than 2.3 million unique visitors annually. The PSU Sports Desktop will complement the myriad of features already offered to Nittany Lion fans on GoPSUsports.com including photo galleries, highlight videos, podcasts, feature stories and much, much more.
"Our collaboration with Penn State demonstrates the dimensions of ActiveAccess as a brand extension for sports teams," said Rodger Melchori, director of sales for BIA Information Network. "Sports fans are fervent in their consumption of team news and information and ActiveAccess has the ability to keep the communication - and the loyalty - open between team and fan."
PSU Sports Desktop is a non-intrusive, light-weight program containing no adware, spyware or spam. It can be installed at work or at home and will not slow down a company's network or use much RAM or hard drive space.
