ITA East Day 2

WEST POINT, N.Y. October 22, 2005 ¨C The ITA Division I East Regional Championships continued on Saturday and Nittany Lions Sasha Abraham, Andreea Niculescu, and Jenny Shular took their places on the Lichtenberg Tennis Center¡¯s courts once again.

Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) defeated Niagara¡¯s Danielle Grenier 6-2, 6-3. Shular went on to beat UMBC¡¯s Ale Pedergnana 6-4, 6-0.

In other tennis action, Abraham (Hyderabad, India), seeded 16th in the ITA East Regionals, was defeated by Virginia Tech¡¯s Ashley James 3-6, 6-2, 4-6.

Niculescu (Montreal) advanced after she beat Columbia¡¯s Sydney Murray 6-4, 6-2, but she was then defeated by Harvard¡¯s Eva Wang 1-6, 2-6. Wang is seeded 4th in the ITA East Regionals.

Day three of the ITA Division I East Regional Championships will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23.
