Women's Tennis Earns Three Wins in USTA NTC Women's College Invitational
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. October 8, 2005 - Penn State's Sasha Abraham with partner Lauren Holzberg, along with Katelyn BeVard and partner Andreea Niculescu competed Saturday in the USTA NTC Women's College Invitational held at Corona Park. Despite the temperamental weather, each doubles team played a total of three matches. However, not even cloudy skies could stop the Lady Lions from clutching three wins. Abraham (Hyderabad, India) and partner Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) began their day with two losses. Their first loss to Yale was 7-9, and then they were defeated by Princeton with a score of 4-8. The last match for this highly energized duo was very close, but the Lady Lions defeated Army's Brooke Jones and Amy Morgenstern with a score of 9-8. BeVard's (McLean, Va.) and Niculescu's (Montreal) first match against Cornell was also close, but the Lady Lions proved victorious with a score of 9-8. However, in the team's second match, BeVard and Niculescu were defeated by Harvard 6-8. The last match for the Lady Lions was a victory against Yale's Christine Alford and Ashley Miles with a score of 8-5. Play for the USTA NTC Women's College Invitational will continue Oct. 9.
