Women's Tennis Looks to Extend Win Streak to Three

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.; - The Penn State women's tennis team welcomes the Akron Zips to the Indoor Tennis Center tomorrow at 5 p.m. for a non-conference match. The Nittany Lions are currently 2-0 after solid wins over Bucknell and Lehigh last weekend.
"Akron is going to be ready for us," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "We are not taking them lightly and we look forward to a great match."
In last weekend's season-opening 6-1 victory over Bucknell, freshman Sarah Henderson (Auckland, New Zealand) topped Dara Dwojewski in straight sets on the No. 4 court, 6-1, 6-1, to clinch the match victory for the Nittany Lions. Sophomore Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) handed Dumitrita Iepuras a 6-2, 6-1 loss on the No. 3 court.
On Sunday against Lehigh, senior Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) picked up wins in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Henderson secured a second-straight match victory for the Lions as she topped Stacey Reich in third singles, 6-0. 6-1.
Akron is led by head coach Jeffrey Wyshner, who is in his fourth season with the team. The Zips are coming off an impressive 6-1 win over Michigan State last Friday in their first dual match of the spring season. Sophomore Zara Harytyunyan is currently ranked No. 75 nationally in singles and ninth in the Midwest region.
Freshmen identical twins Angelina and Angelika Jogasura have shined in their first season for the Zips, winning the No. 2 and No. 3 singles flights, respectively, at the Florida Gulf Coast Eagle Invitational Jan. 16-18. Akron finished the 2009 season with a 15-8 overall record and a 4-4 finish in the Mid-American Conference.
The Nittany Lions open Big Ten play next weekend as they travel to Purdue on Friday, Feb. 5 for a 2 p.m. The following weekend, the Lions travel West to play at Wichita State on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. and at Oklahoma on Sun. Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. Penn State's next home match is Friday, Feb. 19 when it hosts Marshall at 5 p.m. Admission to Penn State home matches is free.
