NEW HAVEN, CONN.; - The Penn State women's tennis team went an impressive 15-4 on the second day of the Yale Invitational. The tournament continues tomorrow at Culman-Heyman Tennis Center.

In Blue flight singles play, freshman Monika Mical (Stalowa Wola, Poland) defeated Francine Whu of Boston University (7-6(6), 6-3). Junior Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) was topped by Mary Wilson of Quinnipiac in two sets by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) earned a hard-fought win over Jessie Rhee of Yale by a score of 7-6, 7-3, 3-6, 10-5.

In other singles play, junior Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) beat Paulina Rys of Fairfield (6-1, 6-2) in the White flight. Sophomore Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) defeated Stevi Petrelli of Yale (4-6, 6-3, 10-4). In the Silver flight, walk-on freshman Kristen Roth (Ardmore, Pa.) earned a win over Kasey Rosenberger of Quinnipiac by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Also in the Silver flight, senior Leyla Morzan defeated Lilian Nguyen of Yale (6-4, 6-1) and freshman Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.) won over Tara Brennan of Fairfield (6-1, 6-0). Freshman Allie Hefter (Longmont, Colo.) fell to Yana Sadovskaya of Boston University by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

In Blue Flight doubles play, Lotto and Mical defeated Vicky Brook and Jessica Rhee of Yale 8-5 before falling to Stefanie Nunic and Francine Whu of Boston College (8-4). McCarthy and Prishlyak fell to Janet Kim and Lauren Ritz of Yale 8-4, and later won their Blue flight consolation match over Ashley Spicer and Chelsea Jones of Syracuse by a score of 9-7. Morzan and senior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won both their matches in the White doubles flight, the first over Natalie Duckor and Shawna Sarson of Quinnipiac (8-4) and the second over Kristen Liu and Paulina Rys of Fairfield (9-7).

In the Silver doubles flight, Stracar and Hefter topped Lilian Nguyen and Sarah Lederhandler of Yale by a score of 8-2, followed by a default win the second round. Zobeideh and Roth defeated Dana Postupack and Marisa Voloshin of Fairfield 8-2 and also earned a default win in the second round.
