Penn State Women's Tennis Falls to Demon Deacons

Winston-Salem, N.C.; - The 22nd-ranked Demon Deacons of Wake Forest came out on fire this afternoon and gave the Penn State women's tennis team a 7-0 loss in North Carolina.
"The team competed very hard today," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "WFU has a solid tennis program. We took advantage of our practices this week and I saw the improvements on the court today. The team is looking forward to using this next week of practice to make adjustments within our game."
Highlighting singles action was the fight put in by freshman Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) in a three-set match against Katarina Reveche. Zobeideh lost the first set, 7-5, came back to win the second set, 6-4, but could not pull it off and lost the third set, 10-7. In other singles action, senior Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) was defeated by No. 75 Alex Hirsch (6-3, 6-3) and senior Katelyn BeVard (McLean, Va.) was defeated by Sasha Kulikova (6-0, 7-6.) Junior Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) had a hard-fought match against Christian Tara but fell 7-6, 6-2. Sophomore Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) was topped by Sierra Poske (6-0, 6-4) and junior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was defeated by Emilee Malvehy (6-2, 6-3).
In doubles action, Shular partnered with Lotto but were taken down by Kulikova and Poske, 8-4. Bevard and sophomore Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) teamed up in a tough match against Jenna Loeb and Hirsch but could not pull off the win and fell 9-7. Dohanics and Holzberg took on Aileen Davis and Tara but were defeated 8-3.
The Nittany Lions return home this coming weekend to take on Marshall on Friday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the team will host Yale at 11 a.m. Both matches are set to take place at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center and admission is free.
