Nittany Lions Head to Georgia Invitational on Friday
Dec. 2, 2010
ATHENS, Ga. - The Penn State women's swimming & diving team will return to action on Friday at 9:30 a.m. when the team kicks off the three-day Georgia Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
The invitational will feature some of the finest programs in the nation, including the host Bulldogs who enter the meet ranked second in the latest CSCAA poll. In addition to Georgia and Penn State, the competition will also include No. 9 Virginia, No. 10 Auburn, and No. 14 Minnesota along with Kansas and Harvard. Every team at the invitational is receiving votes in the national poll.
Action starts at 9:30 a.m. each day with evening competition beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Live results are available on Georgia's website at: http://www.georgiadogs.com/livestats/c-swim/10invite/
Penn State enters the invitational at 2-2. The squad is looking to rebound after dropping a pair of close decisions during a double-dual meet with Virginia and Indiana two weeks ago.
Sophomore sensation Amy Modglin continues to lead the Nittany Lions after starting the year with a slew of strong performances. She currently has the team's top time in four individual events while eclipsing the NCAA `B' standard in the 200-backstroke and 400-individual medley.
In addition to Modglin, Alexandra Young has posted Penn State's top times in both butterfly events, while Diana Greco has been a force in the distance freestyles. Chelsea Weedman also topped the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA meet after clocking in at 2:01.75 in the 200-individual medley against Virginia and Indiana.
The Nittany Lions last competed in the Georgia Invitational during the 2003-04 campaign when the squad earned a second-place finish at the prestigious event.
Following the Georgia Invitational, Penn State will take a month-long break before returning to competition in the New Year.
