Women Swimmers Competed in 2001 U.S. Open

East Meadow, N.Y. - The Penn State women swimmers will bring home seven top 16 finishes overall from the 2001 U.S. Open in Long Island, N.Y.

Sophomore Corrie Clark (Malvern Pa.) touched tenth in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:32.03. Masami Tanaka of Aquazot Swim Club broke the Meet Record in the event with a 2:23.62. The old record, a 2:25.52, was held by Olympian Megan Quann of Pauyallup since December, 1998. Quann took third in tonight's competition with a 2:25.81.

The team's 400-meter freestyle relay with members senior Piper Chamberlin (Grand Junction, Colo.), freshman Larissa Kavchok (Emmaus, Pa.), senior Lindsay Fraschilla (East Fallowfield Pa.), and freshman Deidre Dlugonski (Washington, Pa.) finished 12th with a time of 3:52.89.

Individually, Dlugonski took 21st in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 57.48.
