Amberle Biedermann Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Nov. 29, 2005 ¨C Penn State¡¯s Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Spring, Colo.) was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week today for the first time this season. Biedermann led the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams, capturing impressive victories in both events. The honor comes after the Lion women defeated West Chester¡¯s women¡¯s swimming and diving team 165-75, improving to a 5-3 record.

The senior¡¯s qualifying marks came in her first place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.99) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.40). The relay teams posted an NCAA ¡°B¡± standard time in the 200 medley and an NCAA ¡°A¡± standard time in the 400 freestyle relay. Biedermann also captured a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.57).

Biedermann is a ten-time Big Ten Champion, seven-time Big Ten record holder and a six-time all-American. Biedermann won three Big Ten titles this past season in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and 100 butterfly. She made her fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships this past March, finishing seventh in both the 200 and 400 medley relays.

The Penn State men¡¯s and women¡¯s swimming and diving teams travel to Columbus, Ohio Dec. 2-4 for the Ohio State Invitational, starting at 11 a.m. Friday morning.
