Men's and Women's Swimming to compete in U.S. Open
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The men's and women's swimming teams will travel to Long Island, N.Y. this weekend to participate in the 2001 U.S. Open. The competition is expected to attract over 800 athletes from across the globe. Olympians Tom Dolan, Tom Malchow, Michael Phelps, Mary DeScenza, and Jason Lezak will also be competing. At the 1999 U.S. Open, swimmers who accounted for 16 of the 26 individual gold medals in Sydney, participated. In its first year in 1985, the U.S. Open saw Tom Jager break the world record in the 50m free. The competition is on November 29-December 1 at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y. The preliminaries begin at 9:30 a.m. and the finals are at 6 p.m. --LIONS--
