STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Penn State men's and women's swim teams traveled to the University of Virginia on Sunday, and gave the Cavaliers some tough competition.

Overall both the Virginia's men's and women's teams came out ahead of the lions. The final score for the men was: Cavaliers 131, Lions 105, and for the women: Cavaliers 130, Lions 111.

In the men's competition, winning performances were captured by senior captain Bob Molettiere (Harleysville, Pa.) in the 50 yd. freestyle with a time of 20.64, in the one-meter diving by senior Steve Bohner (Landsdale, Pa.) with a score of 263.93, and by freshman Mark Zucca (Hudson, Ohio) in the 200 yd. breaststroke with a time of 2:04.92. Penn State's men's 400 yd. freestyle relay, with members Todd Minnier (Avon Lake, Ohio), Molettiere, Eugene Botes (Glen Mills, Pa.), and Martin Schierhorn (Zappendorf, Germany) also claimed first place.

In the women's competition, first place finishes were swum by freshman Erin Mulshenock (New Castle, Del.) in the 200 yd. backstroke with a time of 2:00.85, and sophomore Kristen Woodring (Sinking Spring, Pa.) in the 200yd. breaststroke with a 2:16.07. The Penn State women's 400 yd. medley relay team of Katie Bruzda (Latrobe, Pa.) Woodring, Jen Eberst (Clifton Park, N.Y.), and Larissa Kavchuck (Emmaus, Pa.) and 400 yd. freestyle relay team of Diedre Dlugonski (Washington, Pa.), Kavchuck, Piper Chamberlin (Grand Junction Colo.), and Lindsay Fraschilla (East Fallowfield, Pa.) also took first.

Virginia's Mirjana Bosevaka touched first for the women in both the 200 yd. individual medley with a 2:02.56, and in the 500 yd. freestyle with a 4:53.09. Ian Prichard took first for the men's team in both the 1000 yd. freestyle with a 9:07.11, and in the 500 yd. freestyle with a 1:47.40.

Both the Penn State men's and women's team will travel to Long Island N.Y. next for the U.S. Open, November 29 through December 1.
