Lion Women's Swimming and Diving Come Up Short in First Meet on the Road
TUCSON, Ariz.; Oct. 28, 2005 ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s swimming and diving team fell short Friday evening against Arizona, 110-152, and Big Ten rival Wisconsin, 111-151. The Lions fall to 1-2 for the season.
Penn State freshmen captured two first place finishes for the team at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. Freshman Kelly Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.47, and freshman Kaitlin O¡¯Brien (Caldwell, N.J.) won the 400 IM with a time of 4:16.76.
Junior Nikki Collins (Carmel, Ind.) garnered the only other first place finish, winning the 1000 free with a time of 10:05.05.
Freshman Karie Haglund (Marietta, Ga.) finished second behind Nelson in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.55. Junior Megan Palera (Santa Maria, Calif.) finished close behind Collins in the 1000 free with a time of 10:09.81.
The Penn State women¡¯s swimming and diving team travels to Arizona State tomorrow for a dual meet against Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara, starting at 10 a.m. MST.
