Women's Swimming and Diving Captures First Road Win of the Season

TEMPE, Ariz.; Oct. 29, 2005 - The Penn State women's swimming and diving team captured their first road win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Arizona State, 121-82, and UC Santa Barbara, 102.5-64.5. The team garnered six first place finishes. The Lion women advance to 3-2.

The women dominated the freestyle events with junior Nikki Collins (Carmel, Ind.) capturing a first place finish in the 1650 free with a time of 16:52.85, and freshman Kelly Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) winning the 200 free with a time of 1:51.10.

Seniors Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Sarah Haupt (Carlisle, Pa.), sophomore Molly Crispell (State College, Pa.), and freshman Caitlin Meehan (West Chester, Pa.) took home a first place finish in the 200-medley relay.

Haupt, Crispell and Nelson also took home first place finishes in the 400 freestyle relay, along with junior Lauren Preyss (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). Freshman Abby Hoisington (Leawood, Kan.) rounded out the swimming portion of the day with a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Junior Kimberlee Peifer (Camp Hill, Pa.) ended an already astounding day for the team by placing first in the 3-meter diving event.

The Penn State women's swimming and diving team stays on the road for a dual meet against Virginia and Auburn, in Virginia Nov. 11-12.
