Penn State's Stanchock Named Big Ten Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2003) - Junior co-captain Courtney Stanchock (Bloomsburg, Pa.) picked up her first career conference honors as she was named the Big Ten Conference's Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week for her efforts in Penn State's double-dual meet Oct. 24-25th at Virginia. Stanchock helped Penn State's 400-yard freestyle relay team to a first-place finish against defending National Champion Auburn and Virginia with a time of 3:29.07. She also posted a pair of NCAA "B" qualifying times to help the Nittany Lions defeat Virginia. She finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.80 (NCAA B) and second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.44 (NCAA B). She was also on the 400 and 200 medley relay teams that finished second and third, respectively. Stanchock is the first Nittany Lion to receive conference honors since current sophomore Lisa Silvestri (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) was named Big Ten Diver-of-the-Week on Nov. 12, 2002. She is the first to receive Big Ten Swimmer-of-the-Week accolades since Erin Mulshenock on Jan. 28, 2002. The Penn State Women's Swimming and Diving teams will be back in action Nov. 14 when they play host to Washington in their home opener 3 p.m. at McCoy Natatorium.
