Women's Swimming Announces 2000-01 Schedule
University Park, Pa. - The Penn State women's swimming team has announced its 2000-2001 schedule. After a 1999-2000 season in which the Nittany Lions recorded a 10-1 mark in dual meets and tied the school-best finish in the Big Ten Championships (fourth), third-year Head Coach Bill Dorenkott will look to continue his success with the Nittany Lions. Penn State opens its 2000 schedule October 27 at Villanova. The team's fall season will be packed with many challenges, including the Continental Airlines Classic in Houston and a home dual meet with Big Ten foe Purdue. In late November, the fall slate will wrap up with a split squad weekend, as part of the team competes at the US Open in Auburn, Alabama and the remaining team members race in the Nittany Lion Invitational. "If we stay healthy, study diligently and train hard this Fall we should have a lot to look forward to in the Spring Semester," said Dorenkott. As the Lions continue on their path to Big Tens and NCAAs, they resume their season after the holidays at a training clash with Clemson and Miami. ACC up-and-comer Maryland will be next on the Lions ledger for a showdown in College Park. This meet will be followed by a weekend double dual meet with Big Ten opponents Indiana and Michigan State. In early February, at home on Senior Day, the Lions will close out their dual meet campaign with a meet against the Hawkeyes of Iowa. "We are approaching our dual meet season from a philosophy of preparing to win. Our goal is to prepare our athletes for the challenges of Big Tens and NCAAs by using dual meets to gauge training and hone racing skills," said Dorenkott. The Big Ten Championships will be held February 15-17 at Bloomington, Indiana. The NCAA Championships are March 15-17 at Long Island, N.Y. 2000-2001 Women's Swimming and Diving
