UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (June 27, 2003) - The Penn State women's swimming team has named Courtney Stanchock and Dee Dlugonski to lead the squad into a grueling 2003-04 schedule, which consists of five meets against teams that were in the top 25 in 2003.

Both swimmers were 2002 and 2003 NCAA Championship qualifiers and Honorable Mention All-Americans in 2003. Dlugonski is a school record holder in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay. Stanchock holds the school record in the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relays.

"Dee is one of the only sophomore captains in the history of our program and will continue to lead our program in both the classroom and the pool," said Penn State coach Bill Dorenkott. "Courtney is a very conscientious person and a terrific young lady. With these two young ladies and strong leadership from our upperclasswomen, we will be poised for a productive year."

The Nittany Lions, which finished 22nd at the 2003 NCAA Championships, will open their season Oct. 24-25 versus Virginia and Auburn in Charlottesville, Va. before heading home to host the first three of five home meets on the slate. Auburn was the 2003 SEC and NCAA Champions.

Penn State will open the home schedule versus Washington (Nov. 13) before hosting St. Bonaventure (Nov. 21) and West Chester (Nov. 25).

The team will then make a trip south for an invitational at Georgia (Dec. 5-7), a training trip in Naples, Fla. (Dec. 27-Jan. 9, 2004) and a meet versus the 2003 ACC Champion, North Carolina (Jan. 10, 2004), in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Nittany Lions will then head home to close out their schedule against Indiana and Pittsburgh on Jan. 23-24, 2004 and then Rutgers on senior day (Jan. 31, 2004). The Hoosiers are the defending Big Ten Champions.
