Former Penn Stater Regan Stacey Scheiber Places Second at 25K Open Water National Championships
State College, Pa., June 19, 2000 - Former Penn State women's swimmer Regan Stacey Scheiber placed second at the recent 25K Open Water National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. The 25K Open Water National Championships is a World Championships selection meet, with the top two winners from both the men's and women's side representing the United States at the 25K Open Water World Championships which will be held in Hawaii in November 2000. Stacey Scheiber, a 1995 graduate of Penn State, tallied a time of 5:49 to finish second behind winner Briley Bergen who swam the course at a 5:40 clip. The pair will represent the United States at the 25K Open Water World Championships. Stacey Scheiber became Penn State's first Big Ten Champion in a distance event when she captured the 1650 freestyle title during the 1994 season. She also was the first Nittany Lion distance swimmer to earn back-to-back All-America honors with consecutive ninth-place finishes at the 1993 and 1994 NCAA Championships.
