Women¡¯s Swim Team Announces 2001-2002 Award Winners
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s swim team held its annual postseason awards banquet on Sunday evening. The highlight of the night was the annual presentation of team awards. Alecia Kornacki (Simpsonville, S.C.) won the Elizabeth McCoy MVP Award, which is given to the team member whose achievements have led to the team¡¯s success. Kornacki also won the Jerome Weinstein Coaches award, which is presented to the team member who is not only the hardest worker, but is sure to give 100% to his teammates emotionally and physically The women¡¯s team gave the Captains Award to three Nittany Lions. Piper Chamberlin (Grand Junction, Colo.), Kornacki and Barb Mulshine (Cincinnati, Ohio) all won the award. All three swimmers were part of the senior class that went from last in the Big Ten their freshman year to first their senior year. The Galbraith Diving Award given to the outstanding diver was awarded to Maggie O¡¯Brien (Minnetonka, Minn.). O¡¯Brien was a NCAA zone champion and a NCAA qualifier. , Other award recipients included Chamberlin and Mulshine who won the Nittany Lion Award, which is given to the person whose perseverance has led to the greatest overall improvement during a season or seasons. Becky Lane (Pottstown, Pa.) won the Ellen Perry Highest GPA Award. The Senior Awards were given to the following swimmers: Piper Chamberlin, Lindsay Fraschilla, Christina Frey, Alecia Kornacki, Barb Mulshine, Jennelle Ritchie, Melissa Wilson and Shana Bellairs. -Lions-
