State College, Pa. - Freshmen swimmers Kristen Woodring (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Corrie Clark (Malvern, Pa.) will represent the United States at the World University Games to be held August 22-September 1 in Beijing, China. Head coach Bill Dorenkott will be joining Clark and Woodring on the World University Games squad, having been named an assistant coach for the team. The swimmers qualified for the squad last weekend at the Phillips 66 Spring National Championships in Austin, Texas, where Clark finished fifth in the 200 individual medley and Woodring placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

"It is a great honor to be selected to represent the country internationally," coach Dorenkott said. "To go down to Austin last week and compete at that level speaks well of Kristen and Corrie and of our program. It is an exciting time for Penn State swimming."

Both Woodring and Clark had stellar freshmen campaigns for the Nittany Lions as part of a team that posted school-best finishes in both the Big Ten Championships (2nd) and the NCAA Championships (11th). Clark broke school records in the 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM during her freshman season. At NCAA's, Clark placed 6th in the 100 fly, 8th in the 200 breast and 12th in the 200 IM and was part of the 400 medley relay (12th), 200 free relay (16th) and 400 free relay (16th). During her first year in Happy Valley, Woodring broke to school record in the 100 breast and placed third at NCAA's in the event. She was also part of the 200 medley relay (7th) and 400 medley relay (12th).
