Penn State Looks To Score in Five Events on Day 2 of the NCAA Women¡¯s Swimming & Diving Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Mar. 18, 2005) ¨C Senior Alison Riccobono (Ypsilanti, Mich.) scored two team points by finishing 16th on the 3-meter diving board Friday afternoon at the NCAA Women¡¯s Swimming and Diving Championships.

Riccobono became an honorable mention All-American in the process, as she brought Penn State¡¯s point total to 32.

Penn State is assured of scoring in three more events, and will swim in four events, tonight when the finals portion of the second day of the NCAA Championships gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

The Nittany Lion 200-yard medley relay will swim in the championship finals tonight after finishing fifth in this morning¡¯s preliminaries with a time of 1 minute, 40.21 seconds. Penn State finished fifth in the 200 medley relay at last year¡¯s NCAA Championships.

Also swimming in the finals will be senior Kristen Woodring (Sinking Spring, Pa.) in the 100 breaststroke, junior Sarah Haupt (Carlisle, Pa.) in the 100 backstroke, and the Nittany Lion 800 freestyle relay team will swim in Heat 2 of tonight¡¯s finals.

Woodring finished 15th this morning with a time of 1:02.03, while Haupt took ninth in 54.19.

Haupt and Woodring also swam in the 200 medley relay, along with junior Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Deirdre Dlugonski (Washington, Pa.).

Sophomores Megan Palera (Santa Maria, Calif.) and Claire Hawley (Barnstable, Mass.) captured 26th and 34th place in the 400 IM in 4:20.24 and 4:23.08, respectively, in this morning¡¯s preliminaries.

Biedermann took 40th in the 100 butterfly in 55.55, freshman Lauren Preyss (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was 29th in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.89.

Also in the 100 breaststroke, senior Courtney Stanchock (Bloomsburg, Pa.) was 23rd in 1:02.81, and Dlugonski was 50th in 1:05.32.

Senior Jennifer Eberst (Clifton Park, N.Y.) took 33rd in the 100 backstroke.
