Freshman Modglin to Swim in NCAA Championships
March 4, 2010
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Penn State freshman sensation Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) will swim in this month's NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Monday. Modglin qualified in the 200 backstroke with the nation's eighth-best time (1:54.02) and will also swim in two other events, the 200 and 400 IM.
In total, the Nittany Lions swam to 32 total "NCAA B" times this season, 27 individual and five relays. "NCAA A" times bring automatic qualification into the championships while only a select number of B times are invited.
Modglin led Penn State with nearly an "A" time in the 200 backstroke. Because she will swim in that event, she will also participate in two other events in which she swam to "NCAA B" times - the 200 IM (2:01.51) and 400 IM (4:15.13).
The championships will take place from Mar. 18-20 at Purdue University. NCAA.com will stream both sessions of competition on Thursday and Friday along with the preliminaries on Saturday. ESPN360 will stream the finals on Saturday while ESPN2 will also air a 90-minute show at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 6.
