Penn State Women¡¯s Swimming and Diving Picks up Big Ten Conference Honors
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Feb. 21, 2004) Five members of the Penn State swimming and diving team were named to the All-Big Ten squads Saturday night after the completion of the Big Ten Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. Sophomore Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Deirdre Dlugonski (Washington, Pa.), sophomore Sarah Haupt (Carlisle, Pa.) and senior Kristen Woodring (Sinking Spring, Pa.) were all named to the All-Big Ten first team. Sophomore Lisa Silvestri (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) made the All-Big Ten second team. The Nittany Lions finished second at the Big Ten Championships with a team total of 590.5 points. Michigan took first with 604.5. The Nittany Lions won a total of five of the 21 events during the championships including the 200 and 400 medley relays, the 200 butterfly, the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke. They also set school and Big Ten Championship records in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.22 on Wednesday night¡¯s first event. Biedermann, Haupt and Woodring all won three events and Dlugonski won two. Silvestri finished second on the one-meter board and fourth on the three-meter board.
