UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Feb. 19, 2004) - Sophomore Lisa Silvestri (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.)had a strong day on the one-meter diving board, finishing second, Thursday at the Big Ten Championships to help the Penn State women's swimming and diving team stay within striking distance of another conference title.

The Nittany Lions currently sit in fourth place with 186 points behind first-place Michigan (213), second-place Wisconsin (199) and third-place Indiana (187). Purdue rounds out the top five with 158 followed by Minnesota (149) in sixth, Iowa (76) in seventh, Michigan State (68) in eighth, Northwestern (65) in ninth, Ohio State (61) in 10th and Illinois (42) in 11th.

Silvestri had a score of 291.60 to finish second in the one-meter diving finals.

The Penn State 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lauren Semchyshen (New Fairfield, Conn.), Deirdre Dlugonski (Washington, Pa.), Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jennifer Eberst (Clifton Park, N.Y.) took eighth with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:33.14.

Senior Sally Anderson (Somerset, N.J.) took sixth in the 500 freestyle in 4:46.84, freshman Erin Morris (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) was eighth in the 200 IM in 2:03.94 and Dlugonski was eighth in the 50 freestyle in 23.40. All were NCAA "B" cut times.
