Women¡¯s Swimming and Diving Qualifies 10 individuals for Big Ten Championship Finals
COLUMBUS, Ohio.; February 16, 2006 ¨C The 14th-ranked Penn State women¡¯s swimming and diving team qualified 10 individuals this afternoon after the completion of preliminary competition. The Lion women claimed 10 of the 48 open spots in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle and 200 IM events. The women were unable to claim spots in the 50 Free. The finals will begin at 7 p.m. tonight. A link to live results will be available at www. GoPSUsports.com. Penn State entered the day in tenth place with 34 points. Wisconsin is in the lead with 72, Minnesota is second with 70 and Michigan is in third with 64. Senior Patty Murphy (Medford, N.J.), juniors Erin Morris (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Nikki Collins (Carmel, Ind.), Jessica Barnes (Glenmoore, Pa.), sophomore Molly Crispell (Boalsburg, Pa.) and freshman Jaime Keily (Houston, Texas) all received NCAA ¡°B¡± qualifying times in the 500 Free preliminary competition. Freshmen Kelly Nelson (West Chester, Pa.), Kaitlin O¡¯Brien (Caldwell, N.J.), Karie Haglund (Marietta, Ga.) and Abby Hoisington (Leawood, Kansas) also captured NCAA ¡°B¡± qualifying times in the 200 IM preliminary competition. O¡¯Brien¡¯s time of 2:01.07 beat the previous pool record set in December.
