ROSEMONT, Ill. – After leading the Big Ten in a pair of events over the weekend, Penn State sophomore Maddie Hart (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) was named the Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Hart touched first in a pair of events in a dual meet win over Villanova Friday, setting personal bests in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.82) and 200 backstroke (1:58.96), with the latter besting the NCAA B-cut standard. She also led off a winning effort in the 200 medley relay.
It is Hart’s first Big Ten honor since earning Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week honors following her inaugural meet as a freshman, and she is the first Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week from Penn State since Melissa Rodriguez in February 2016.
Next for the Nittany Lions, select members will compete in the Ohio State Winter Invitational, Saturday and Sunday Feb. 10-11, otherwise the Big Ten Championships are next. Ohio State is hosting the women’s championships Feb. 14-17, while Minnesota is hosting the men’s championships Feb. 21-24.
