Women¡¯s Swimming and Diving Dominate Kenyon, 113-83

GAMBIER, Ohio; Jan. 26, 2006 ¨C The Penn State women¡¯s swimming and diving team dominated Kenyon today in a 113-83 victory.

The Lion women started the meet with an impressive first place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.59. Freshmen Sarah Baker (Fairfax, Va.), Abby Hoisington (Leawood, Kansas), Karie Haglund (Marietta, Georgia) and sophomore Molly Crispell (Boalsburg, Pa.) brought the relay team to a first place finish.

Junior Nikki Collins (Carmel, Ind.) took first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:01.74. Sophomore Jill Heck (Kennett Square, Pa.) captured a first place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.96. Junior Genie Cheng (Oak Park, Calif.) garnered a first place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.50. Senior Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) rounded out the freestyle portion of the meet with a first place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.53.

Freshman Kaitlin O¡¯Brien (Caldwell, N.J.) took the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.16, and Haglund captured her second first place finish of the day in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.55.

Freshman Kaitlyn Ferguson (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) captured a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.10.

The Penn State women's swimming and diving team travels to Columbus, Ohio for a two-day meet with Ohio State and Indiana, beginning Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.

The second day of competition will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
