Nelson, O'Brien Tab Honorable Mention All-American Nods in Second Day of NCAAs

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Kelly Nelson and Kaitlin O'Brien earned honorable mention All-American bids as they placed top 16 finishes during the second day of competition at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday in College Station, Texas.
Nelson broke her own school record in the 200-yard freestyle event during the preliminary round with a time of 1:44.94. The West Chester, Pa. native won her seventh honorable mention All-American status, to go along with her All-American win last year, with a 14th place finish with a finals time of 1:45.88.
O'Brien scored her fourth honorable mention All-American nod, touching the wall in 16th in the 400 IM. O'Brien clocked in at 4:08.18 for her fastest time of the day.
Four other Penn State swimmers competed during Friday's slate of competition. Karie Haglund timed in at 1:00.83 as she finished 22nd in the 100 breaststroke. Lyndsey Smith also competed in the 100 breaststroke and tabbed 49th in 1:03.45.
Through two days of competition, Penn State ranks 35th with four points. Indiana leads the Big Ten in 10th as the Hoosiers have cumulated 114 points. California leads Georgia 302-295.5 as the top team going into the final day of swimming and diving.
