Penn State Wraps Up Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio. - The Penn State women's swimming team wrapped up the final day of the Ohio State Winter Invitational with a slew of strong performances as the Nittany Lions capped off the 2010-11 regular season on Sunday evening at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Penn State, which was represented by six competitors during the meet, posted the top time in three individual events on the final day of the invitational.
Leah Davis kicked off Sunday's action in fine fashion with a victory in the 200-freestyle. During the event, she posted a time of 1:54.00 to take the title. Ann Ragan Kearns also looked strong, placing third after clocking in at 1:55.12.
A day after winning the 500-freestyle, Erika Rodman returned to the pool to sweep the distance events with a victory in the 1,650 on Sunday. During the discipline, she earned the top spot with a time of 17:18.22, which easily eclipsed her personal best in the event. Emily Wolfarth battled Rodman the entire way, placing second with a time of 17:37.24.
Following her victory in the 200-freestyle, Davis concluded her day with another oustanding performance in the 200-breaststroke. During the event, she was the runner-up after clocking in at 2:23.13, which marked a personal best for the freshman standout.
In the 50-freestyle, Lauren Barnes led the Nittany Lions after placing fourth with a personal-best time of 24.76. Heather Brady was close behind, touching the wall in fifth place in 25.01, which marked her top clocking of the season.
Later in the evening, Kearns capped off the meet in the 200-fly. While swimming uncontested, she touched the wall in 2:09.11 after speeding to a time of 2:08.83 in the preliminaries.
Penn State will return to action on Wednesday when the squad heads to Bloomington, Indiana for the first day of the Big Ten Championships. The four-day meet will run through Saturday, February 19.
