Penn State Finishes First Day of Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Six members of the Penn State women's swimming team represented the Nittany Lions during the annual Ohio State Winter Invitational and performed well during the competition as the group combined to collect six podium finishes in four events during the first day of the meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Erika Rodman led the way after capturing the title in the 500-freestyle. During the event, she eclipsed her top performance of the season by over 10 seconds with a time of 5:01.22. Leah Davis also notched her best showing of the year at 5:01.30, while Emily Wolfarth rounded out the top-three with her top effort in the event after touching the wall in 5:01.41.
In the 100-fly, Ann Ragan Kearns and Lauren Barnes finished second and third after piecing together their top performances of the season. Kearns was the runner-up after clocking in at 58.22, while Barnes, who was competing in the event for the first time this year, touched the wall in 1:00.35.
Earlier in the day, Davis posted her fastest time of the season in the 100-breaststroke after completing the course in 1:06.49 during the preliminaries. Later, she settled into second-place in the finals of the event with a time of 1:06.91.
In the 100-freestyle, Heather Brady led the Nittany Lions after placing fourth with a personal-best time of 53.67. Barnes was close behind, placing fifth in the field, while Wolfarth and Rodman finished seventh and ninth, respectively.
Penn State will conclude the meet tomorrow with finals beginning at 5 p.m.
