UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State softball team will play eight games as part of its fall schedule, hosting six on Beard Field, head coach Amanda Lehotak announced Tuesday.
The Nittany Lions open their 2014 fall schedule on Sept. 28 at Pitt with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against the Panthers.
Six days later, on Oct. 4, Penn State hosts a 1 p.m. two game set against Bellevue University. Bellevue (Neb.) is coached by Lehotak's sister, Michala Cimino.
The Nittany Lions welcome Bucknell to Beard Field the next day with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
St. Francis comes to University Park on Oct. 11 for a twin bill against Penn State, also at 1 p.m.
In her inaugural season at the helm of the program in 2014, Head Coach Amanda Lehotak led the Nittany Lions to a 14-35 overall record with a 5-18 Big Ten record, finishing a spot higher in the conference standings than the year prior. Four players batted over-.300 with Lexi Knief earning All-Big Ten second team accolades. Lehotak's team also achieved in the classroom; nine players were named to the Academic All-Big Ten team and Alicia Walker garnered Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award honors.
