STATE COLLEGE, Pa., May 21, 2001 - Junior third baseman Jennifer Tripken (Middletow, N.Y./Minisink Valley) was voted all-NCAA Region 3 Tournament team. Tripken helped the Nittany Lions to its second-consecutive tournament bid and to a 2-2 record at the NCAA Region 3 Tournament in Baton Rouge, La.

Tripken is one of 12 players selected to the all-tournament team and one of three third basemen. Over the course of four games, she led the team with a .364 batting average, with two runs scored and two stolen bases. In Penn State's 4-0 win over Cornell, she was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI. Tripken was also perfect in the field during the tournament. In four games, she collected a team-high 19 assists while committing no errors.

The Lions recorded their best-ever finish at the NCAA Regional Tournament, placing fourth. Penn State upset fourth-seeded Southern Mississippi and also defeated Cornell University. The softball team ends the season with a 34-28 overall record.
