Penn State Softball Regional Games To Be Broadcast on WMAJ

State College, Pa., May 16, 2000 - Fans and media can tune in to all of the Penn State softball team's action at the NCAA Region 5 Softball Championship this week in Tempe, Ariz., live on State College's WMAJ 1450 (AM). WMAJ will broadcast all of the Nittany Lions regional contests live from Tempe, Ariz., with Pat Boland handling the play-by-play.

The broadcasts can also be accessed via the internet by logging onto the Penn State Sports Information home page located at www.psu.edu/sports and clicking on the link designated for the webcasts. The Nittany Lions are 6-0 when their games are broadcast on the radio/internet this season.

The Nittany Lions, who are the No. 3 seed in Region 5, will open play in Tempe on Thursday, May 18 against No. 4 seed Texas A&M at 6:00 p.m. (EDT). The winner of the game will advance in the winner's bracket and take on the winner of the game between No. 2 Alabama and No. 5 Florida Atlantic on Friday, May 19 at a time to be determined. If Penn State falls to the Aggies, it will take on the loser of the Alabama-Florida Atlantic contest on Friday, May 19 at a time to be determined. The regional tournament is a double-elimination event.

Penn State, which is currently 37-17 overall, is entering its first NCAA Regional since 1985. The Lions finished third at last week's Big Ten Conference Tournament and are enjoying the best season in school history. The team's 37 wins eclipsed the previous season-high win total of 35 which was set by the 1999 squad. Penn State is 0-4 all-time in NCAA postseason play.
