Penn State¡¯s Jim Fuller Wins Big Ten Golfer of the Week Honors
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., April 23, 2003 ¨C Penn State senior Jim Fuller (Muskogee, Okla.) earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors this week for his performance at last weekend¡¯s First Energy Collegiate at Kent State University. Fuller helped lead the Nittany Lions to a solid fourth-place showing at the event, which featured 15 competing schools. Fuller finished in a tie for eighth place after shooting a 216 over the weekend, with a low round of 70 in the second of three rounds. The veteran has been Penn State¡¯s top performer all season, with a first-place, second-place, and two seventh-place finishes to go along with last weekend¡¯s eighth-place effort. He currently sports a team-leading average of 71.17 strokes per round in 23 rounds this season. The Penn State men¡¯s golf team will be in action this weekend as it hosts the 27th Annual Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Penn State Blue Course. Fuller will look to propel the Nittany Lions to their 12th-consecutive tournament title against a field of 14 other teams. Penn State broke the 54-hole tournament record for the third-straight time on its way to victory last year. The first tee time is set for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the second round to follow the completion of the first. The first group will tee off at 8:00 a.m. for the final round on Sunday.
