Softball's Home Opener Rescheduled For Wednesday

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., March 27, 2001 - The Penn State softball home opener against St. Francis (Pa.) has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 28. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Nittany Lion field. The game was postponed from Tuesday because of cold weather. Game one will still be broadcast by WMAJ or can be accessed through the Internet at www.pennlive.com/wmaj. Links to the site will be available through Penn State's official web site at www.GoPSUsports.com. Game two will not be heard on the radio but will be web cast through www.pennlive.com/wmaj.

The Nittany Lions are coming off of a 3-3 weekend at the Who's Hoo Tournament hosted by the University of Virginia. The team placed second behind the Cavaliers who went a perfect 6-0. Penn State is 16-10 on the season and is led by senior all-American Karen Gulini (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and senior pitcher Kelly McCann (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin). Gulini is hitting .434 in 26 games played, while McCann has posted a 10-5 record and a 1.62 ERA.

Penn State is coming off of its best season in school history going 38-19 overall and finishing third in the Big Ten for the second-consecutive season. The Lions also made an appearance at the NCAA Regional Tournament, recording their first-ever NCAA win over Texas A&M.
