TALLAHASSEE, Fla.; March 12, 2004- The Penn State softball team (7-13) lost a 3-0 decision to No. 19 Nebraska (12-8) to begin action in the Florida State Invitational Friday. The Lions continue tourney action at 6 p.m. vs. Florida A&M.

Freshman Meghan Wolfer (Northampton, Pa.) had Penn State¡¯s only hit of the game in the first inning, extending her hit-streak to eight games. Nebraska pitcher Peaches James continued to hold the Lions¡¯ scoreless through seven innings.

The 19th-ranked Huskers threatened in the second, but came away scoreless after Missy Beseres (Golden Valley, Minn.) struck out two of Nebraska¡¯s last three hitters. In the third, the Lions were not as lucky, however, as Nebraska scored two runs in an inning highlighted by a single from Anne Steffan and a two-RBI single from Jaime Waldecker. The Huskers led 2-0 after the third inning.

In the fifth, it looked liked the Lions might avoid trouble despite a triple from Sheena Lawrick with just one out, but Lawrick crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0 Nebraska.

Penn State continues Florida State Invitational action this afternoon vs. Florida A&M at 6 p.m. The Nittany Lions beat the Lady Rattlers 7-1 earlier this week at Florida A&M.
