Softball Downs Central Michigan, 9-1

ORLANDO, Fla., March 8, 2005 - The Nittany Lion softball team downed Central Michigan, 9-1, today in five innings. Freshman Jenn Reynolds (Clovis, Calif.) led with 3 hits and 2 RBI's. Two other freshmen, Ashley Esparza (san Pedro, Calif.) and Jen Acunto (Hollywood, Fla.), had two RBI's each. Pitcher Esparza also struck out seven batters in the win.

Penn State used an eight-run fifth inning to put away the Chippewas in a run-shortened game. Esparza's seven strikeouts were a career high. Penn State improves to 6-5 on the season.

Lion Notes:

Freshman C Hollee Haines is currently on a six-game hitting streak. Haines is batting .571 for the the spring break trip, tallying 12 hits in 21 plate appearances, including nine RBIs and four doubles. She has four multiple RBI games, the most of any Lion, with three games with two RBIs and one with six.

Freshman 1B Jenn Reynolds is currently has a seven-game hitting streak going.
