Nittany Lion Softball Falls to No. 6 Georgia, 3-0
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.; February 21, 2004- In a tough opening stretch at the Palm Springs Classic, Penn State fell 3-0 to No. 6 Georgia to open Saturday¡¯s action at Big League Dreams. Penn State continues action with its third Top 10 team in two days when it takes on No. 1 UCLA at 6 p.m. PT. Penn State gave up a run early again, as was the story on opening day for the Lions. Senior pitcher Marisa Hanson (Victoria, Texas) pitched a solid three-hit ballgame, but gave up single to the lead-off hitter Nicole Barber, who eventually and scored to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Centerfielder Leigh Murray (Fairfax Station, Va.) smacked a double to deep left center off Georgia ace Michelle Green in the top of the first, but was stranded on second. Murray¡¯s hit was the Lions¡¯ only hit of the day. In the fourth inning, Georgia put Penn State away with two more runs to make it a 3-0 final.
