Lions head to texas for season opener: Coming off of the most successful season in team history, the Nittany Lions open 2001 at the Aggie Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. Three of the four teams participating (Texas A&M, Alabama, Penn State) were NCAA Region 5 Tournament participants. Texas A&M Corpus Christi completes the four-team tournament. Alabama is the highest-rated squad this weekend, ranked No. 5 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Top 25 poll. Both the Aggies and the Lions received votes. Penn State will face Texas A&M Corpus Christi to start the tournament on Friday morning.
