Danielle Kinley named Big Ten Player of the Week
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; February 13, 2007 ¡ª Penn State sophomore outfielder Danielle Kinley (Carlsbad, Calif.) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week after a standout performance at the Carolina Classic last weekend. It is the first career honor for Kinley and the Nittany Lion softball team this season. Kinley led the Nittany Lions to a 3-1 record and a second place finish in the Carolina Classic last weekend. She batted .727 (8-for-11) with three doubles and six RBI to earn All-Tournament accolades. With her perfect 5-for-5 performance against North Carolina, she broke the school record for hits in a game. The previous high was four. Kinley¡¯s slugging percentage was an outstanding 1.000. She went 3-for-3 with the bases loaded and 5-for-6 (.833) in RBI opportunities. In the game against NC State, Kinley¡¯s RBI single scored the game-tying run and started the scoring that saw Penn State retake the lead in a come-from-behind victory. Against East Carolina, Kinley smacked a double to bring in the game-typing run in another come-from-behind win. She also hit a single to bring home the game-winning run against host North Carolina. The Nittany Lions have a week off before returning to action at the Palm Springs Classic. Penn State will take on three ranked teams in the tournament.
