Senior Hollee Haines Picked Up One of the Two Hits on the Day

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University softball team (25-11, 2-3 Big Ten) dropped its third Big Ten contest of the season falling to the University of Illinois (20-17, 2-1 Big Ten), 11-1 (6). The Nittany Lion bats never came to life as the Fighting Illini strung together 12 hits to put up 11 runs.

Junior Danielle Kinly (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) and senior Hollee Haines (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King) were the only two Nittany Lions to register a hit. Redshirt freshman Jackie Hill (San Jose, Calif./Leigh) picked up the loss only the fifth of the season, 12-5. She pitched 5.1 innings with a strikeout and two walks. Sophomore Kimi Wong pitched the remaining 0.2 of an inning while allowing a pair of walks.

Four Fighting Illini batters registered multiple hits on the day while two hit homeruns.

The Nittany Lions will next be in action tomorrow, April 5 at 12 p.m. as they host Illinois for the second game of the series.
