Nittany Lions Garner No. 8 Ranking in Latest NSCAA Poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Penn State women's soccer team climbed up the rankings four spots to eighth, as announced by the NSCAA on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions, 1-0 victors over then-No. 9 Virginia, takes its highest ranking in the NSCAA poll since November 2007. Penn State defeated Virginia 1-0 on Friday with the Nittany Lions ranked 12th and Virginia 9th. Penn State moved past UCLA (fell from fifth to ninth), Virginia (ninth to 10th), USC (8th to 12th), and Oklahoma State (11th to 21st). Penn State remains the highest-ranked Big Ten squad, as Illinois jumped four spots to 13th, Minnesota moved two spots up to 17th, while Purdue, Michigan State and Ohio State were all receiving votes. North Carolina received top billing, earning all 32 first-place votes, while Notre Dame, Portland, Stanford and Florida State round out the top five. Texas A&M and Florida are just ahead of PSU in sixth and seventh, respectively. The editors from Soccer America ranked Penn State fifth in their poll yesterday. The Nittany Lions will be back in action on Saturday when they face No. 14 West Virginia at Jeffrey Field for the Penn State Invitational. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., while Connecticut and Brigham Young open the proceedings at 5:00 p.m.
