UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women’s soccer team has released its 2018 regular season schedule, as announced by head coach Erica Dambach. Penn State is scheduled to play 11 regular season matches at Jeffrey Field.
“I’m excited about the 2018 schedule,” Dambach said. “Across the board, this upcoming schedule will test our team in the non-conference slate and in the Big Ten, as our team looks to make a run at the 2018 national championship. We are already counting down the days until we can be back home at Jeffrey Field.”
The Penn State women’s soccer program will begin its 25th season as a varsity program with the Penn State Invitational on Aug. 17. Penn State will open the season against regional rival West Virginia.
The Nittany Lions and Mountaineers have met 17 times with Penn State leading the series, 8-7-2. In 2017, the two teams split the two meetings, with WVU capturing a 2-1 victory (Sept. 2) and then the Nittany Lions left Morgantown, West Virginia, victorious with a 3-1 win in the third round of the NCAA Tournament (Nov. 19).
The Blue & White close out the opening weekend against in-state opponent Duquesne on Aug. 19.
The season-opening homestand continues for the Nittany Lions when the 2017 Women’s College Cup runner-up UCLA Bruins head to Happy Valley for a Saturday night showdown at Jeffrey Field on Aug. 25.
Penn State and UCLA have met five times prior to the 2018 season with Penn State leading the series, 3-2-0. The Bruins are making their first trek to University Park since Aug. 25, 2006. The 2006 matchup saw then-No. 3 Penn State defeat then-No. 2 UCLA, 3-1, in front of a then-program crowd of 3,208 fans at Jeffrey Field.
Following Penn State hosting UCLA, the Nittany Lions travel to James Madison (Aug. 30) before heading to Wake Forest (Sept. 2). The Demon Deacons faced Penn State last season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament with the Blue & White capturing a 2-0 victory.
The 2018 non-conference regular season slate concludes with the Nittany Lions hosting a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents in Syracuse (Sept. 6) and Virginia (Sept. 9).
Penn State’s quest for its 18th Big Ten regular season title begins with the 2017 Big Ten regular season champions Ohio State on Sept. 14 at Jeffrey Field.
The Blue & White travel to the state of Illinois to play Northwestern (Sept. 20) and then Illinois (Sept. 23). Following Penn State’s weekend road trip, the Nittany Lions return home to host Nebraska (Sept. 27) and Iowa (Sept. 30).
The Nittany Lions then hit the road for a pair of matches at Michigan State (Oct. 5) and Michigan (Oct. 7). The following weekend features Penn State playing host to Maryland (Oct. 12) and Rutgers (Oct. 14).
After heading to Indiana on Oct. 18, the Nittany Lions return home to host Minnesota on Oct. 21 for their 2018 regular season finale.
The Big Ten Tournament is slated to start on Oct. 28. The Big Ten Tournament semifinals will take place on Nov. 2 and the championship match is scheduled for Nov. 4.
The 2018 NCAA Tournament begins on Nov. 9 and the 2018 Women’s College Cup is set for Nov. 30 & Dec. 2 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
