Penn State Women's Lacrosse to Play Four Fall Tournaments
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Aug. 27, 2002 -- While it is only fall, the Penn State women's lacrosse team will be honing their skills in four fall tournaments beginning in September.
On Sunday, Sept. 29, the Nittany Lions will play host to Delaware, Hofstra and Lafayette beginning at 1 p.m. on the Bigler grass fields. Penn State then travels to the Fall Lacrosse Classic at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. on Oct. 12. While the exact schedule is not set, the tournament will feature top notch teams, including Cornell, UConn, James Madison, George Mason, SUNY-Albany, American and Georgetown. Play will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 3 p.m.
The following weekend, Sunday, Oct. 20, the Lions will face Duke during a scrimmage taking place on the campus of Loyola (Md.) beginning at 1 p.m. Penn State will round out their fall schedule by playing in a tournament at Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The Lions return 24 letterwinners from last year's 8-9 team. Penn State ended last season ranked 15th in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and 17th by Warrior/Inside Lacrosse magazine.
