UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 2016 NCAA Semifinalist Penn State women's lacrosse team embarked on a 10-day tour of Europe on Wednesday with Amsterdam and Greece in its sights. The Nittany Lions will face the Dutch National Team during its two-country tour.
The Nittany Lions depart from the United States on Wednesday evening and will land in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on Thursday. From there, Penn State will face the Dutch National Team on Friday in Amsterdam.
On Saturday, the Nittany Lions leave Amsterdam for the remainder of the trip in Greece. The team will be based in Athens and see such sights as the Temple of Poseidon ruins, Mykonos and Piraeus.
On Wednesday, June 8, the Nittany Lions will take part in an Introduction to Lacrosse with members of the Greek Special Olympics. They will also see the Parthenon, the rest of Athens, Delphi and Arachova as well as take part in a cultural gathering with the Green Men's National Lacrosse Team.
The team is set to return Friday, June 10 to the United States.
Under NCAA rules, a team may take one international trip every four years. Penn State's trip has the generous support of parents and family of the team as well as select alumni and donors.
The Nittany Lions just capped their 10th trip to the NCAA Semifinals and fell by a single goal to eventual national champions North Carolina this past Friday in Chester, Pennsylvania. Penn State finished the season ranked fourth nationally after a 14-7 record.
