Penn State Women¡¯s Lacrosse Falls To Delaware, 11-10, In Overtime

Newark, Del. May 8, 2004 - The Penn State women¡¯s lacrosse team lost its final game of the season, 11-10, to Delaware in overtime. The one-goal loss marks the sixth of the year for the Nittany Lions.

Senior Katie Jeschke (Ellicott City, Md.) scored four goals to lead Penn State while sophomore Lori Havrilla (Devon, Pa.) tallied three, sophomore Shari Maslin (New City, N.Y.) posted two and junior Kristen Burke (Severna Park, Md.) notched one. Havrilla also recorded two assists to lead Penn State.

Junior goalkeeper Lee Tortorelli (Havertown, Pa.) recorded 15 saves in the game.

Penn State took a three-goal lead behind two scores from Jeschke and a mark from Havrilla. Delaware got on the board at the 19:42 before Jeschke and Maslin scored again with just over 14 minutes remaining in the half to put the Nittany Lions up, 5-1. The Blue Hens scored twice more before Burke scored off a pass from freshman Renee Cipro (Ellicott City, Md.) at the 6:40 mark to put Penn State up, 6-3. Two more Delaware scores before the half sent the teams into the break with the Nittany Lions up, 6-5.

Two Delaware goals opened up play in the second half to put the Blue Hens up, 7-6, before two Havrilla scores put Penn State back on top. But Delaware responded with consecutive goals of its own to take back the lead with just under 18 minutes remaining in the contest. Jeschke tied the game at 9-9 at the 13:50 mark and the teams played scoreless for the remainder of regulation.

Maslin scored with 1:52 remaining in the first overtime to give Penn State the 10-9 lead but back to back Delaware goals put the Blue Hens on top, 11-10, and Delaware held on for the victory.
