State College, Pa.- The No. 13 Penn State women's lacrosse team (8-9) will face No. 4 Dartmouth (12-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, May 10 at 4:00 p.m. at Dartmouth's Scully-Fahey Field.
The Nittany Lion lacrosse program has an overall record of 13-12 in the NCAA Tournament, having taken the title in 1987 and 1989. Penn State has also notched two runner-up finishes and five third-place finishes.
Penn State has a 10-5 all-time record versus the Big Green, having lost the last matchup on April 15. On that day, despite a furious second half rally, Penn State fell to Dartmouth 12-11 in front of a vociferous crowd at Bigler Field. Dartmouth's Suzy Gibbons paced the Big Green on the afternoon, scoring three goals and assisting on three others. Penn State came to life late in the game, but second half hat tricks from Alison DeCecco (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Katie Jeschke (Ellicott City,Md.) were not enough to overcome the Dartmouth advantage.
On Sunday, the winner of the Dartmouth/Penn State contest will meet the winner of the game between No. 5 Princeton and No. 12 Cornell.
