UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 9, 2007 ¨C The No. 8 Penn State women¡¯s lacrosse team (8-4, 0-1) will take on its third top-three ranked team in the span of eight days when it travels to Evanston, Illl. for a key American Lacrosse Conference match-up with two-time defending national champion and No. 1 Northwestern (8-1, 1-0) on Sat., April 21. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Lakeside Field.

The Nittany Lions should be brimming with confidence after their showing at the ALC/ACC challenge last weekend. Penn State knocked off No. 2 North Carolina, 8-7, in overtime on Friday night, and took No. 3 Maryland to the wire in a 10-9 loss Sunday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Cammie Jurkowsky (Annapolis Md.) had two of the best games of her career as she totaled 31 combined saves versus the Tar Heels and Terrapins. Junior Jessi Lieb (Villanova, Pa.) broke out of her brief, one-game scoring slump, tallying four goals and three assists for the weekend.

Northwestern lost its first game of the season to North Carolina, but has since won eight-straight games, including a recent 17-5 dismantling of No. 5 Duke. The Wildcats boast an arsenal of scoring weapons, possessing five different players with more than 20 goals, led by 2006 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Kristen Kjellman¡¯s 26. Their defense is equally prolific, as NU opponents are averaging just over five goals per game with no team netting more than 10 scores.

Penn State has dropped three straight games to the Wildcats, including a 19-9 home loss last year. The Nittany Lions¡¯ last win was a 12-7 decision in 2003. The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 4-4.

The Nittany Lions return home next Friday, April 20, to host ALC foe Ohio State on Senior Night. The Buckeyes are currently 6-4 on the season, after losses to Maryland and North Carolina in the ALC/ACC challenge, and have contests with UC-Davis and Vanderbilt ahead this week. Game time is set for 7 p.m., with the location to be determined.
