Women's Lacrosse Hosts No. 1 Maryland, No. 7 North Carolina, Ohio State
State College, Pa.- This weekend, the #13 Penn State women's lacrosse team plays host to #1 Maryland, #7 North Carolina and Ohio State for two days of exciting lacrosse. On Friday, the action begins on Bigler Field as North Carolina and Ohio State meet at 3:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., the Nittany Lions face #1 Maryland. Sunday morning, Penn State takes on North Carolina at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Ohio State/Maryland game at 2:00 p.m.
The #13 Nittany Lions are 3-4 overall, having been edged by #3 Princeton 10-9 last Saturday. PSU is 13-23-1 all-time versus Maryland, in a series which started in 1973. The Nittany Lions and Tar Heels have played two tight games over the past two seasons with each team taking a victory. In 1999, the Lions won 7-6 and in 2000 the Heels took a 14-13 decision.
The Terrapins, 7-0, are the six-time defending national champions, led by two-time consensus Player of the Year Jen Adams. Adams leads the Terps with 44 points (24 goals, 20 assists) through the first seven games of their 2001 slate.
The Tar Heels, 5-3, are coming off consecutive wins off of #9 Virginia and Virginia Tech. Two Tar Heels, Kellie Thompson and Christine McPike, have each tallied 21 goals through the team's first eight games.
Ohio State, 5-1, has rattled off wins against Monmouth, Denver and St. Bonaventure since losing to Boston University on March 18. The the Buckeyes trail 0-3 in their series with Carolina having lost 13-4 last season. April 1st marks the first meeting between the Terps and the Buckeyes.
